Karpati (2019)
(Aluminum, Purple Heart wood from Mexico, gems, bearing guided rotating platform)
This work of art was created for clients. Every single decision of this sculpture adds layers to the story. At its most broad, it is about their family. More specifically their journey as a family beginning together in this physical form closely knit, traveling apart, growth, and returning to each other.
There are 5 members of this immediate family and 5 twisting arms of the sculpture. The base is organically growing and rough, while the top is reflective and smooth. They balance in this moment plucked from the story of the multiverse and all dimensions. It is also interactive as you can spin it. They seek enlightenment and the center chakra-color-aligned gems speak to this constant work.
There are mountains and valleys carved into the base. This represents both the family’s last name sake (The Carpathian Mountains) but also the passage of time. The wood used for the base is from the country where the mother was born.
